Smart Grid SCADA – Home Energy Management System

Scope

The scope of this Virtual Laboratory exercise is to demonstrate interoperability in future energy systems by developing interoperable energy flows between distributed energy resources and management systems.

In particular, the Laboratory provides a detailed step-by-step procedure for the acquisition of data from smart meters, batteries and smart inverters using Modbus TCP, and present methods to operate on the acquired data for innovative energy management.

Specific Outcomes

Upon completion of this exercise, individuals will be able to:

•    Interface software solutions with sensors for the of applications.

•    Understand the operation of Smart Grid communication protocols such as Modbus.

•    Acquire and analyze data from smart meters and data acquisition devices.

•    Understand interoperability and energy flows in Smart Grids.
